The firey glow of the setting sun on the grass and shrubs, waters edge, frames Cathedral rock and its reflection
Blessed by a perfectly still morning, I liked how even the wispy clouds were captured in the reflection. Moraine Lake, Alberta, Canada
As we walked around Emerald Lake, the stormy weather paused, the wind calmed and the sun broke through, but just for a minute
The clouds were to the west and it looked like the sunset show was going to be flat. Most of the photographers around me had packed up. Then low and behold, a minute before official sunset, the sun burst forth and the rocks glowed and incredible red.
Everyone says Mesa Arch is a “must see” in Canyonlands National Park.Over and over we had heard stories of photographers lined up in front of the arch for the morning sunrise. Once the predawn started, we were surprised to see that the arch was so much smaller than expected. At just 10 feet high and 90 feet wide, it was, well, small. All the talk about how great this arch is and it is only 10 feet tall? Then the sun started to rise… and we were awed.
It was late afternoon and the dust from the farmers working the fields mixed with the golden light to give the hills a soft surreal look.
It was my first night in the park in over 35 years and my heart was set on capturing the light on half dome at sunset reflecting in the Merced River. However, due to the drought conditions in the area, the Merced River was all but a trickle. It took a bit of exploring to find the spot matched the image in my mind.
Waiting for sunset, I instead had the opportunity to capture the setting light through a storm cloud and watch the canyon glow.
Although the clouds did not light up like we had hoped, the early morning rays of sun created a beautiful palette of color across the canyon wall

It was during late January and the water on Lake Powell was exceptionally still. The water level seems lower each time I visit. I keep thinking, it may be the last reflection I am able to shoot on the lake. On this afternoon, the golden color was even more amazing against the dark clouds. Two ducks cut across my photo as I was shooting. I wanted to be annoyed, but I liked the lines they created.
The water was calm and the clouds lit up perfectly to give the illusion of this promontory floating in the sky of color. Lake Powell, Page, Arizona.

I have visited Monument Valley many times, but I have never seen a sunset like on this evening. The sky behind me was on fire. After the sunset, the clouds glowed a beautiful pink which tinted the red rocks to a color I'd never seen before in the west. To capture the uniqueness of the color and beauty of the moment I focused on a simple mitten.
